Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (2 May 1892 – 21 April 1918), also widely known as the Red Baron, was a German fighter pilot by the Imperial German Army Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte) during World War I. He is considered the ace-of-aces of that war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories, more than any other pilot during World War I. Many of his successes were achieved against a numerically superior enemy, who were flying fighter aircraft that were on the whole better than his own. During a dogfight with his Fokker DR1 triplane Richthofen was shot down and killed near Amiens in France on the 21 April 1918. He remains quite possibly the most widely-known fighter pilot of all time, and has been the subject of many books and films.

The ilustrated beer steins present modern replicas of models that appeared after World War I. These beer steins pay tribute to one of the most iconic German heros to emerge out of the first World War.
