Girmscheid 39 Liter Beer Stein

Girmscheid Giant Historical Stein, the world wide largest available beer stein to date and only available upon order, salt glazed cobalt design with finely modelled removable harp player lid

This hand crafted stein, standing 4 feet tall (1.30 meter) with lid and holding 10.5 gal (39 liters), impresses with it's incredible detailed work. It is carefully formed and hand cut from clay found only in the Westerwald area of Germany. The stein, which weighs 66 pds (30 kilos), goes through a drying process of about 10 weeks. The following step is the delicate glaze applications to show off all the different relief designs. After being moved into the kiln, the stein is fired for 48 hrs at around 2500F, towards the end of the firing process and when the temperature is most highest, common salt is added to the kiln which creates the famous salt glaze with it's famous orange peel-like surface texture.

This stein ilustrates a pre-christian Germanic Wedding, most likely that of the dragon slayer Siegfried and Krimhielde from the famous epic poem of the Nibelungs.
