  is located in the southwestern part of the German Westerwald, a heavily eroded range with elevations ranging from 200 to 400 m. It is very famous for its clean clay deposits and Indeed, the name for this small region is the "Kannenbäckerland" or “Pitcher Bakers Land”, a reference to the traditional ceramic industries that flourish here. The most famous ceramic center of stoneware and beer steins in the Westerwald is the town of Hoehr-Grenzhausen, it is here that the beer stein production can be traced as far back as 1525. Numerous stein, stoneware and glass companies are located in this unique region and with its college for technical and ceramic design and also the largest museum for ceramics in Europe it counts today as the all time champion of German stoneware production.

Girmscheid was established from Matthias Girmscheid in 1884 and took over the production of the famous
Merkelbach series in 2007.  Girmscheid use original Merkelbach body form molds,  pewter attachment casts
and they also fire the items with the same salt glaze firing process. Please
